Causer: Grant Supports New Equipment for Port Allegany Fire Department

Chief Mike Johnson of the Port Allegany Fire Department Star Hose Company #1 demonstrates new breathing equipment to state Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter). The company purchased 21 new self-contained breathing apparatus with a $150,000 grant Causer helped secure from the state Department of Community and Economic Development. The new equipment is lighter weight, can hold more air and includes additional safety features. Those features include an electronic firefighter locator to aid in rescue if a firefighter became lost or trapped in a fire, as well as a more timely low air warning to give firefighters more time to exit a hazardous environment.
